Ear Conditions

Vertigo

Vertigo (dizziness) can occur when the vestibular branch of CN VIII becomes irritated. Menniere’s syndrome is an example of vertigo plus tinnitus plus deafness that occur intermittently. Nausea often accompanies the vertigo.

The Ear Treatment spelled out below seems to help. Additionally, there are conventional body acupuncture points that have been well documented to help the nausea.

Current conventional treatment is to reduce inner ear pressure by reducing salt intake and adding a diuretic or using medications such as meclazine or scopolamine. This approach helps some. In past years, surgical decompression of the inner ear was attempted, but that has fallen into disfavor because the symptoms return later.
